Permanent makeup is cosmetic tattooing, a method of implanting natural or synthetic pigment into the dermal layer of the skin.  The inks I use are 95% natural pigments made from food dyes, and are iron oxide free, making them MRI safe.  I prefer not to use inks made with iron oxide since they can change color over time.  This is what causes black in a tattoo to turn a green or blue tint, and brown to turn pink, mauve or even red.  You may have seen this in some older tattoos.  I have even seen dark blue or purple lips after a procedure from using red inks that contain iron oxide. These are all very difficult to correct, but not impossible.

The decision to have permanent makeup is very personal and something only you should decide for yourself.  Therefore, it is extremely important before choosing a technician, to do some research, and ask a lot of questions.  Keep in mind that any form of tattooing is a permanent scar of color and becoming informed about the procedure will help you weigh the benefits as you decide if permanent makeup is for you.

Are they open and professional, and most importantly are you comfortable talking with them. If they hesitate about answering any of your questions, it might be best that you do not consider this person to do your procedure.

Once you have chosen a prospective technician, but are still apprehensive, ask for a consultation. This is a good time to evaluate the cleanliness of their workspace. Communicate with them the procedure(s) you are interested in and make sure you both have a clear understanding of what you want and, be willing to listen to their ideas. Take your favorite makeup with you so that colors can be selected that are right for you. A properly trained and experienced artist will advise you of what can and can not or, should not be done. Make sure they listen and adequately respond to your questions and concerns.

It is also extremely important not to choose a technician based on their prices alone which can range anywhere from $100.00 to $1,000.00 for one procedure. I believe my prices are reasonable considering the time and care I take with each client. I schedule 2 hours for one procedure and 3 hours for 2 or 3 procedures. This way I know I am giving my client all the time they need to get comfortable and feel relaxed.
